Transition and Primary Offer
What the students said:
‘It was nice knowing someone to start school with’
‘Doing the Everton course had helped me deal with things better in school’
‘I loved the transition day, I made friends really easily’
What do the Primary schools say?
‘We thoroughly enjoyed our visit with Year 5 today for the STEM session led by Mr Hand and Mr Cooper.
The session was exceptionally engaging from start to finish. Mr Hand was encouraging, enthusiastic and highly skilled at drawing all pupils in, ensuring that every child felt confident to participate. The activities were great fun, but crucially the key learning points were clear, well-structured and fully accessible to all learners.
Our children left the session with a secure understanding of protons and electrons, static electricity, and—most importantly—the value of science and how it can be applied in their everyday lives. The balance between enjoyment and learning was excellent, and it was clear just how much the children had both gained from and enjoyed the experience.
The impact was evident immediately afterwards, with pupils excitedly talking about their learning and expressing real enthusiasm about returning to The Prescot School next month for a maths session. Several also spoke positively about their growing excitement for starting secondary school next September, which speaks volumes about the confidence and aspiration this experience helped to foster.
Many thanks to the team for such a well-planned and inspiring session.’

What goes on at The Prescot School?
Inspiring lessons every day
Students enjoy engaging lessons taught by specialist teachers who are passionate about their subjects. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum with exciting learning experiences, practical activities and opportunities to ask questions, explore ideas and develop a love of learning. Teachers develop their teaching all the time in order to provide our students with the best possible outcomes.
More than just lessons
School life goes far beyond the classroom. Students can take part in a wide range of clubs, trips, competitions, leadership roles and enrichment activities — from sport, music and drama to STEM, careers activities and community projects.
Care, guidance and support
We pride ourselves on knowing our students well. Our experienced pastoral and SEND teams work closely with families to support wellbeing, confidence and friendships, ensuring every child feels safe, supported and listened to.
Strong values, strong character
We help students develop important life skills such as kindness, integrity, resilience and responsibility. Through assemblies, form time, PSHE, leadership opportunities and real-life experiences, students learn how to make positive choices and contribute to society.

Supporting a Confident Start to Secondary School
Our Year 5 and Year 6 Transition Programme
At The Prescot School, we believe that a successful transition to secondary school starts early, feels familiar, and is built on trust, belonging and confidence. That is why we offer an extensive and carefully planned transition programme for Year 5 and Year 6 students, designed to help every child feel safe, supported and excited about joining us.
We work closely with our local primary schools, families and community partners to ensure students are fully prepared — academically, socially and emotionally — for the move to secondary school.
Starting in Year 5: Building Familiarity and Excitement
Whole-School Transition Day
All Year 6 students joining The Prescot School take part in our full transition day in July, where they:
- Meet their form tutor and classmates
- Follow a timetable of lessons
- Learn routines and expectations
- Begin forming friendships
Enhanced Transition for Students with SEND
We understand that some students need additional support when transitioning to secondary school. Our enhanced transition programme for students with SEND includes:
- Smaller group transition days
- Additional visits to the school site
- Tailored support from our SEND and pastoral teams
- Close communication with families and primary schools
This ensures every child experiences a calm, positive and personalised transition.
We also have a transition afternoon before the main transition day and we invite all of those students coming on their own. This makes sure they know at least one person as they join the whole year group a week later
Open Evening: Everyone Welcome
Our Open Evening is an important part of the transition journey and is open to all families. It offers an opportunity to:
- Tour the school
- Meet staff and students
- Learn about our curriculum and enrichment offer
- Ask questions and feel reassured
We encourage Year 5 and Year 6 families to attend and start their journey with us early.
Supporting Students After They Start
Transition does not end in September. Once students join The Prescot School, we continue to prioritise care, wellbeing and belonging.
Strong Pastoral Care
Our experienced pastoral teams ensure every student is supported as they settle in, quickly identifying any concerns and celebrating success.
Targeted Interventions
Where needed, students take part in school-led interventions focused on confidence, friendships, resilience and organisation.
Community Support with Everton in the Community
We work closely with Everton in the Community to provide mentoring, wellbeing support, and opportunities that help students thrive both in school and beyond.
A Smooth, Supported Journey
By the time students join us, they already:
- Know the school
- Feel confident on site
- Recognise staff
- Understand expectations
- Feel supported and welcomed
At The Prescot School, transition is not a single day — it is a carefully supported journey.
We look forward to welcoming your child and supporting them every step of the way.
Primary Arts and PE Saturday Offer
Alongside our Year 11 Boosters, we also run Saturday sessions for primary school students in subjects like Art and PE.
These sessions are all about helping younger students feel confident and excited about coming to The Prescot School. They get the chance to:
- Take part in fun creative and sports activities
- Meet our teachers and staff
- Explore the school environment
- Experience what lessons and clubs are like
We work closely with primary schools to invite students who will benefit most from this extra support, so they feel ready and confident when they start Year 7.
Most importantly, these sessions help students build confidence, make new connections, and feel part of our school community before they even arrive.
You can book onto this offer here (new course coming in September 2026)
