A busy term for the English Department

During this term, students from Year 7 have taken part in an online quiz about football and reading, hosted by authors Tom Palmer and Rob Williams, as well as Match of the Day journalist, Jake Wilson. All students who took part were presented with a Tom Palmer and Rob Williams novel to enjoy over the Christmas holidays.

Students in Year 8 participated in Miss Fletcher’s ‘Gothic Writing Competition’, and even received a special ‘good luck’ message from the actor who plays ‘The Beast’ in Disney’s Beauty and The Beast: The Musical…we were starstruck! Well done to Frankie, Zara, Lily May, Libbie and Lily who have been awarded with a book and £5 Amazon voucher for their spectacular efforts in the competition! We would like to say a massive thank you and well done to students from our local primary schools who also took part, in particular Harry and Anna from Evelyn Primary School, our winners who were selected by pupils and English teachers.

Students from Years 7 to 10 have also made an incredible start to the Debate Mate programme and are really establishing themselves as confident speakers…we can’t wait for our first competition in the new year.

Watch this space in 2022, as we have some exciting things going on for students in Years 9-11, who will be able to take part in Speakers for Schools’ ‘Teen Book Club’, which will begin in late January.
