Access to Learning

Access to Learning

School operates a system of Learner Profiles to support our pupils access to learning. Learner Profiles have four sections:

Section 1: Crucial Information

This section allows for sharing of crucial information that all staff involved in your child’s education and care within school should be aware of.  For e.g any SEND or medical diagnosis.  Information around any specific referrals that are in place e.g speech and language or neurodiversity.  It is also an opportunity to share with staff how your child’s needs may present in school e.g dislikes crowds and noisy environments

Section 2: Required Adaptations

This allows us to share with staff and specific bespoke in-class support your child needs. Any recommendations from external assessments will be added to their plans in additional to strategies shared by teaching staff, pupils and parents For example if your child works best sat near the front, or needs reminders to wear glasses or drink water.  It will also contain any reasonable adjustments in place such as a laptop or coloured overlay to support access to the curriculum and texts.

Section 3: Inclusive Strategies

This section outlines strategies to support access to learning across all lessons. These sections are regularly updated in line with whole school CPD.  The strategies will be a select combination of what has been identified as our Top 10 Inclusive Strategies for sue within all lessons.

  1. Clear Instructions
  2. Visual Supports
  3. Flexible Seating
  4. Chunk Tasks
  5. Extra Processing Time
  6. Reduce Distractions
  7. Pre-Teach Concepts
  8. Use Multi-Sensory Learning
  9. Positive Reinforcement
  10. Check Understanding
Section 4: Strengths and Interests

This is an opportunity for staff to gain knowledge and understanding of your child’s strengths and interests in and outside of school.  It is an opportunity for staff to learn about what your child is god at- so work can be targeted around this where possible and also their interests so they can get to know your child away from the curriculum.

Access to the SEND team to review Learner Profiles is available at every parent’s evening event. Parent meeting slots are offered every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 4:00 by contacting the School Office or the SEND Department tellussend@prescotschool.org.uk
