School Communication – Police Investigation
We are aware of the concern and anxiety caused today following reports circulating online of a threat relating to a school in Liverpool which is being treated as a Hoax.
While this threat was not directed at The Prescot School, we fully understand that this situation may have caused worry for families. A small number of parents chose to collect their children during the day, and we respect that some families will have felt understandably concerned.
We want to reassure families that Merseyside Police are investigating the reports and have confirmed that schools across the region remain open. No schools needed to shut.
The Prescot School will be open as normal tomorrow and we look forward to welcoming all students at 8:25am as usual.
In school we are also using tutor time this week to explain to students what would happen if a school ever needed to go into a lockdown situation, so they understand the procedures that keep them safe. To reassure families, the school was not in lockdown at any point today.
Merseyside Police have issued the following public statement:
Merseyside Police Press Release – Monday 9 March 2026
We would ask people to avoid spreading rumour and misinformation in relation to malicious communications reported at several Merseyside schools earlier today.
Enquiries remain ongoing after we received the reports, which are all believed to be hoax, and work to identify those involved and take appropriate action continues.
No schools have been asked to close by Merseyside Police.
We do not believe there is a wider risk to school staff, children or the wider public. Fear is being created by false information circulating in WhatsApp groups and on social media.
Detective Inspector John Black said:
“We understand that parents and carers will have concerns, but we are linked in with all schools affected and providing advice and reassurance as enquiries continue.
Based on the information we have received and assessed, there has been no requirement for any school to close.
This matter is being treated as a hoax, but we are aware of rumours circulating on social media which are creating additional concerns for parents and guardians.”
The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is always our highest priority. We will continue to follow all advice from the police and local authorities.
We would also ask families to avoid sharing unverified information on social media or messaging groups, as this can unintentionally increase anxiety within the community.
Thank you for your continued support.
